VALEDICTORY
MISS A. DOOGAN. Miss A. Doogan, who has resigned her position as conductress of the choir of St. Patrick’s Church, was last evening, farewelled in the St. Columba Hall. Miss Doogan was presented by the Choir members and the clergy with a silver tea. service, and a silver mounted pyrex dish, in recognition of her, two years’ valuable service as conductress. The large gathering included Rev. Father J. Long, who presided, Rev. Fathers Holohan and Gregory, and Mrs H. F. Doogan. Apologies for absence were received from Rev. Father Healy and Messrs J, Wood and F. Bayley. In making the presentation, Rev. Father Long spoke in eulogistic terms of the service rendered' the church- by. Miss Doogan in her capacity of choir conductress. He deeply appreciated her self-sacrificing efforts in the interests of the choir, and said that the perfection to which she had brought the choir was ample evidence of her capabilities. She came of a very fine family, and both her father and mother had been connected with St. Pat'rick’s choir for a long period, the late Mr Doogan having been conductor for many years. Miss Doogan had worthily maintained the high standard set by her father as conductor, and ail were deeply grateful to her for her work. He expressed the hope that she would be blessed with every happiness in the future, and that the gifts would remind her of her association with St. Patrick’s choir. / Rev. Fathers Holohan and Gregory and Messrs J. Duffy and Jas. Gilbert also spoke in appreciation of Miss Doogan’s work, and wished her every happiness.
In reply. Miss Doogan thanked those present for their handsome presents, and the speakers for their kind remarks. The choir had always worked well and had been very loyal, and this hq.d assisted greatly towards their success, which'she hoped would continue.
During the evening items were rendered by Misses M. McDonnell (recitation), E. Lord, and N. Barrett, and Messrs J. Duffy, G. Murtha, Jas. Gilbert, Jno. Gilbert, W. Colter, and T. Hatch (vocal items). Misses M. and S. McSherry were the accompanistes. Supper was served by the ladies and “Auld Lang ,Syne” concluded the gathering.
Mr J. Woods, Cobden, has been appointed conductor of St. Patrick’s .Choir.
