JAPAN’S WOOL PURCHASES
HINT TO AUSTRALIA. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] (Recd. January 4, 10.30 a.m.) TOKIO, January 3. “There is little danger that the wool experiments in Manchuria will affect Australia for many years',” said Mr 0. Otake, general secretary of the Japan Wool Industry Association. “We recognise the quality of Australian wool, and do not desire to limit our purchases, but we must consider the feelings of South Africa, where the trade balance is in Japan’s favour. That is the main reason why we have been considering increasing purchases of South African wool, but it is dearer and not equal to Australian. Nevertheless,' surely the Australian people could reciprocate and buy more Japanese goods, then we would be able to buy even more Australian wool.”
