HAWKE CUP [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.! NEW PLYMOUTH, January 3. Taranaki retained the Hawke Cup as the result of a challenge by Poverty Bay. The match produced prolific scoring on a batsman’s wicket, the total of runs scored in three days being 1273. Poverty Bay made 234, to which Taranaki replied with 496. Poverty Bay in the second innings made 422, and when stumps were drawn Taranaki had reached 131 for three wickets. Taranaki thus won on the first innings.
