ORDERED TO LEAVE
WOMAN OWNER AS SUB-TENANT
A woman owner of a house was ordered to leave and let a tenant have full possession at Greenwich County Court recently.
Mr Edward William Elliott, CamdenroW, Blackheath, 'was the tenant who sought possession of rooms occupied at that address by Miss Elizabeth Anthony.
It was stated that Mr Elliott had been tenant of the whole house for over thirty years and Miss Anthony his sub-tenant since 1904. In 1932 she bought the house, but continued as sub-tenant.
Mr Elliott said that since becoming owner, Miss Anthony had been very offensive. She had disputed his right to the garden, put his brooms in the coal cellar, refused to let him hang up pots in the scullery, and thrown out a window cleaner engaged by him. A relative of Mr Elliott said that Miss Anthony had shouted at her: “Trespasser, you have no right to be here. Go to your own house.” Siie had also, she alleged, called her “an interloper, a mongrel, and a cur with no pedigree.”
A neighbour said that Miss Anthony had accused him falsely of having broken her gate, pulled her creeper down, killed her cat, and put ’bus tickets in her front garden. Miss Anthony denied using the expressions alleged. Judge Moore ordered tier to leave within two months.
