To-day’s Racing News

Galloping 11 MEETINGS' TO COME. Dec. 26—Poverty Bay. Dec. 26—Waipukurau. Dec. 26, 27—Westland. Dec. 26, 27 —Taranaki. Dec. 26, 27—Dunedin. Dec. 26, 27, 29— Manawatu. Dec. 26, 28. Jan. 1,2, Auckland. Jan. I—Waikouati. Jan. I—Wyndham. Jan. 1, 2—Greymouth. Jan. 1, 2—Hawke’s Bay. Jhn. 1, 2—Stratford. Jan. 1, Jan. 1, 2— Jan. 2—Oamaru. Jan. 2, 3—Southland. Jan. 6, B—Reefton. In' Good Shape: Irish Lancer, who is worked at Mosgiel; Park, looks in excellent shape at present. Silver Ring 1 : Silver Ring was a smart tiVo-year-old-- but has only one placed performance since then. Rasouli; The Bernard gelding Rasouli, who has 4 been off the scene since the Grand National meeting, is aipongst those engaged at the holiday meetings.

Brambletorn’s Scratching: Brambletorn developed soreness when racing at the Woodville meeting, and R. Reed, who had been retained to ride him in the Auckland CUp, was informed last' week that his services would probably not be required. In Auckland Cup: Gold Trail has been growing in favour for. the Auckland Cup. She was a fancy for the Wellington Cup last season-, but collapsed during the race owing to development of throat trouble. Apparently Gold. Trail is coming back to form. Strong Teams’ Mr C. T. Keeble reports that his team for Auckland will be Golden Wings, Lack, Brown Betty, and probably Gipsy Love. The latter is rather doubtful. The other three are all fit and well. Red Manfred: Was galloped after the last race at Woodville, and went well. He hit out freely, and will be in fine trim when the Great Northern Derby has to be decided on New Year’s Day. Betting at Hokitika: The Westland Racing Club has decided not to use the win and place system at the' coming race meeting, but’ to revert to the old system of paying first and second dividend's when five or more horses in separate 4 interests start in a race.

May Soon Wih r La Poupee, who very nearly caught Catalogue happing on the second day at Woodville, does not run very consistently, but, if she repeats that form, she should pick up a stake before long.

Hedr Heckle’s Brother: Sky Rover, the brother to Red Heckle, is showing improvement in his track work, and' is booked to race at the West Coast meetings. He may develop into a good performer.

Will Go Out of Favour: Pladie will not be so much sought after in the future. He has had every chance, and although he has been a winner his form indicates that he has made very little improvement on his initial showings. He does not, however, do a great deal of racing, and there is time for him to improve. Improving Sprinter:

Lady Nan is improving, but her form in her only two starts this season, at Feilding and Woodville, will mean a few extra pounds in a handicap without much return in stakes. If all goes well with her she looks like winning a good race or two later oh. Riding Engagements:

K. Voitre will ride Rocket in the Auckland Cup and Brown Betty in the Great Northern Foal Stakes. No announcement of his Railway Handicap ride has been made. L. J. Ellis will pilot King’s Knave in the Auckland Cup,' Silver Streak in the Railway Handicap, Southdown in the GreatNorthern Derby, and also Variant, Rereatu, and Cherry King.

WAIPUKURAU ACCEPTANCES HASTINGS, December 18. Waipukurau J.C. acceptances for December 3=3 are:— MAIDEN RACE, six furlongs; all 8.7. Tfno Waiata Silver Song Hukemanu Gladstone Foreign King Pokiha Plkiao Sunny Maid Tres Sec Full Throttle Crown Seal Eiodos Grand Vizier Treasure Hunt Lady Wessex '

DIVISION RACE AT AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, December 18. The Robinson Handicap on the

first day of the Auckland R.C. meeting will require to be run in divisions:

ROBINSON HANDICAP, seven furlongs.

TUDOR AT MARTON. WELLINGTON, December 17. Tudor has been re-handicapped at 10.10 for the Rata Hack Hurdles at Marton. AUCKLAND ADJUSTMENTS. AUCKLAND, December 17. The following re-handicaps have* been declared for the first day of the Auckland R.C. meeting: Robinson Handicap: Star Artist, 71b, making 8.7; Christmas Handicap: Mungatoon, 51b, making 7.7. Gold Trail, winner of the Napier Park Stakes on Saturday, and Jonathan, winner of the Flying Handicap at Te Awamutu, will not be re-handi-capped for the Auckland Cup. Star Artist, winner of the Hack Cup at Te Awamutu, will not be rehandicapped for the Railway Handicap. PASSED IN. SYDNEY, December 16. At a sale of racehorses in training at Randwick to-day Questionnaire was passed in at 300 guineas. The New Zealander, Jonker, was passed in at 90 guineas. Trotting MEETINGS TO COME. Dec. 26—Gore. Dec. 26—Ashburton. Dec. 26, 27—Wairarapa. Dec. 26, 27—Westport. Dec. 27, 29,30—Auckland. Dec. 29—Winton. Dec. 30—Reefton.

Auckland Cup Favourite: » Indianapolis pleased last week by the manner in which he stepped a work-out over two miles. He is ripe and ready for the Auckland Trotting Cup; Royal Again: The Australian pacer Royal Again is attracting attention at Addington. As a rule they do not bring coals to Newcastle. Wilma Dillon: Is a great track horse, but fades in a race. He may be in a racing mood at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting. For Auckland: Indian Author and Fairyland have been sent north to fulfil engagements at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting. To Try Again: Morello had no chance with War Buoy in the New Zealand Derby, but is booked’ to meet him again at Ashburton. Ayrmont Chimes: Shaped well in a private trial, and got off the schooling list. A race in public is a rather difficult test, and it will be interesting to note how he behaves if started at the Ashburton meeting. Has a Chance: \ Silver de Oro went 4min. 21 2-ssec. when she ran second to Roddy at Forbury Park and 4min. 24sec. when beaten by Blue Mountain at the same meting. She has a chance to go a good race from a 4min. 28sec. mark at Ashburton.

Pegawa.y’s Task: Reports from Auckland state that Pegaway has been doing so well that it is confidently expected that he will give Indianapolis a good race in the Auckland Trotting Cup. Pegaway will be probably pegging away—after Indianapolis.

Roddy’s Prospects: Roddy went 4min. 25sec. when he won at Forbury Park, and should help to make things interesting in the Ashburton Handicap from a 4min. 30sec. mark.

Nine Will Oppose Him: Although Indianapolis seems to dominate the situation in the Auckland Trotting Cup, an acceptance for nine others in the race suggests that he will not get the stakes without a battle.

Jewel Pointer’s Task: Jewel Pointer is one of the few veterans who remains in evidence under the handicap conditions, which throw fully exposed form into the discard. Indianapolis went 4.23 at Addington last Easter, and Jewel Pointer will have to go well in 4.19 to beat him at Auckland. Angling for Exhibitions:

Those behind Harold Logan appear to be angling for exhibition displays of speed, but apparently without much success. A match with Red Shadow is out,of bounds in the meantime, as the last Trotting Cup winner is not in training. Trotting:

Mr J. R. Coburn left this morning for Westport with his maiden horses. Silk Bell (trotter) and Forest Maid, a pacer by Drusus from Lady’s Mill. He is walking them by easy stages along the Coast Road, and will arrive in Westport on Friday.

Great Trotter: Olive Nelson is one of the greatest trotters ever seen, and from a time point of view is well treated in the Auckland Trotting Cup, but she is a trotter amongst pacers. If she was handled as a trotter amongst trotters instead of a trotter amongst pacers, she would have a chance of getting amongst the money. A trotter’s chance under such circumstances comes at the death knock by staying on, but when asked to speed up in the early stages they are “carted off their legs.’’

J. J. Kennerley fof Westport: f - 1 J. J'. Kennerley will be a visitor to •the Westport meeting with his improving pacer Young Travis, and he will also drive Blandford in his races. Kennerley, like many other trainers, with horses that have won one race, finds a big difficulty in placing his colt to advantage. There are few races of a 3min. 41sec. or 3min. 42sec. class, and such a horse as Young Travis must still contest maiden races and give away up to 48 yards to big fields of young and improving pacers. A trainer’s biggest difficulty is to get a horse out of the maiden class, and the next is to get a race to suit him.
