TEACHER’S DEATH

DUNEDIN, October 30,

A verdict of suicide while depressed owing to ill-health, was returned at the inquest into the death of Susan Rowan Melrose, 39 years of age, a school teacher, who died on the way to the hospital on Saturday, after being found suffering from poison. The evidence showed that Miss Mel rose hud suffered from severe nerve trouble for years.

INDECENT ASSAULT. TAURANGA, October 30.

David Vincent Andrews, a physical culture expert, thirty years of age, was arrested by the police yesterday and brought before the Court this morning to answer four charges of indecent assault.

Accused, who was not represented by counsel, pleaded guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court at Auckland for sentence. The Court was cleared while evidence was heard.

COMPENSATION AWARD. WELLINGTON, October 30.

Compensation amounting to £lOOO, and medical and funeral expenses £5O, the full amounts claimed, together with costs totalling £22 Is, were awarded by Mr. Justice Frazer, in the Arbitration Court, to Jessie Smart, widow, Wellington, against the Wellington Publishing Company. The claim was the result of her husband, Andrew Smart, computer, 67, falling down a flight of stairs while in the employ of the defendant company. The amount of compensation will be less the sum of money already paid.
