RUAWARO MYSTERY

POLICE SEARCH REWARDED

GUN FOUND IN SWAMP

[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

AUCKLAND, October 30. A sudden change occurred in the investigation of the Ruawaro mystery, to-day, when police searchers decided to continue the search. I hey are very reticent, but it is understood that they have recovered another article which may eventually disclose the whereabouts of the missing shotgun, owned by Samuel Pender Lakey, who disappeared from his farm, when his wife, Mrs. Christobel Lakey, met her mysterious death. One striking aspect is that the police have discontinued the search, lor the time being, at least, of the heap of burning slack at the Renown Mme. Unaware, where an extensive investigation was made on Saturday. No attention was paid to the coal, to-day. HOPEFUL OF SOLUTION.

AUCKLAND, October 31

The police, who have been working for a fortnight at Ruawaro, in the endeavour to find the body of Samuel Lakey, yesterday found a gun in a nearby swamp. This is regarded as an important clue to the mystery, and the police worked on till dark, using spades and rakes in the swamp, and resumed soon after daylight. Tho police are said to he hopeful now of the mystery being solved.
