FIRE OUTBREAKS

CUBA STREET MARBLE BAR. [per press association.] WELLINGTON, October 30. The restaurant in Cuba Street, known as tho Marble Bur, was considerably damaged by fire early this morning. A policeman gave the alarm, and four occupants of a room above es-

caped in night attire on to the verandah of the Hotel Bristol adjoining', in which three hoarders in the northern wing, almost above the seat of tho fire,, were driven from their rooms by fire, smoke and water, one losing all his possessions. The good work of the brigade saved the Hotel Bristol, which, along with the Marble Bar. is owned by G. and F. London (Petone), and insured in the State Oilice.

Joseph Arnerich, lessee of the Marble Bai-, is covered bv a policy (Norwich Union) for £2160 on furniture, fittings, stock. METHVEN STABLES. ASHBURTON, October 30. Fire, apparently of incendiarv origin, occurred at William Morgan’s' stables and outbuildings at Methven, on Saturday night. The building, with four traction engines and trailers, was destroyed. Insurances (Liverpool, London and Globe) buildings £l6O, waggons £3OO. The adjoining house was unoccupied.

A peculiar feature is that the remains of a. gig in the stall was identified as having been removed from a section in an adjoining street, and the seat of the fire was apparently about the gig.
