REEFTON, October 14.

The annual prize giving and high ; tea in connection with St. Stephens Sunday School was held on Friday night. Thfere was a full attendance of scholars and in the evening there were also a number of visitors. The prizes were presented early in the evening, after which games and competitions were indulged in by all. A meeting was to have been held in the Council Chambers on Friday night to discuss fully the annual garden competition conducted by the Inangahua A. and P. Association. The Golden Coast Co-operative Dairy Factory at Reefton is manufacturing over one ton of butter per day and the output for the month of September of this year shows an inrease of 43 per cent, on that of the same month for the previous year. It is anticipated that a substantial increase in output will soon take place as new suppliers are joining up with the factory. At the Reefton factory an up-to-date freezing chamber is being erected by the Company and this will provide storage for 1050 boxes of butter. The latest refrigerating machinery, is being installed. The Maruia factory at Station Creek also reports increased number of suppliers. There are a number of patients in the Inangahua Hospital recovering from surgical treatment for appendicitis and all are reported as doing well. . On Thursday night in the new Criterion Theatre the pupils of the Greymouth Convent High School presented Benson’s sacred play “The Upper Room” depicting the story of “The Passion.” There was a large audience and they were treated to a reverent and finished performance. A musical programme was provided by visiting artists from Greymouth and local talent. Several numbers were given by Refton Convent School pupils.
