LION MAULS CHILD

HOSPITAL FETE EPISODE

LONDON, July 22.

A two-year-old child, who was mauled by a lion at a hospital fete at Malmesbury, was saved? from more serious injury by the prompt, action of an attendant. The animal, which was seven months old, was one of the attractions at the fete, held in the grounds of Sir Philip Hunloke. The marquee containing the cage was temporarily left by the attendants, and the child, unseen by its mother, crawled underneath the marquee.

Screams attracted an attendant, who ran in to find the child at the bars of the, cage being mauled by the lion. The child was dragged away and taken to hospital, where thirteen stitches were inserted in a. head wound.
