Jones left to-day, on a visit to Wellington. Mr and. Mrs J.~Sheldon left, this morning, on a visit to Christchurch. Mr F. Meates left by this morning's express for Christchurch. Mr J. Eadie left, to-day, on a visit to Wellington. Misses Mabel and Lena Dumpleton, have returned to Blackball, after visiting Mr and Mrs Tom Clasper, Otira.
Mr and Mrs C. R. East will arriv by to-day’s express on a holiday visi to Mr and Mrs L. East. Cobden.
Mr W. F. Harley was a passenger by this morning's express to Christchurch.
Sergeant C. J. King, Hokitika, left, this morning, for Christchurch, on annual leave.
Mr. and Mrs. E. Kirby, Hari Ilari left, to-day, on a holiday visit to Auckland.
Messrs H. J. Bignel'l and R. Wild, left this morning, for Christchurch, to attend the meeting of the Canterbury Education Board.
Mr and Mrs’ Claud Kilgour, who have been visiting his sister, Mrs W. Green, Perotti Street, have returned to Burke’s Pass, Mackenzie Country.
The death has occurred at Lausanne, Switzerland, of Mrs Monroe Love, who was formerly the Marchioness of Conyngham.
Rev. Hugh Northcote, retired Anglican Minister, of Redcliffs, died suddenly at his residence on Saturday evening.
Miss E. Anderson, of Ashburton, is Visiting the West Coast, on holiday, and she is the guest, of Mrs. Mackley, Shakespeare Street.
Mr C. Woollett, Locomotive Branch, Railway Department, Greymouth, left, this morning, on transfer to Otira. He was accompanied by Mrs Woollett.
Mr Charles Barnard, formerly fields editor, and during the last ten months acting-editor of the “New Zealand Dairy Exporter,” has been appointed to the editorship of that journal.
Mr. J. Simon, Foreign Secretary, concluded his holiday at Rio de Janiero yesterday, when he left for home, in the liner Arlanza. His health has greatly benefited by the change.—Official Wireless.
At last evening’s meeting of the Board of Governors of the Greymouth Technical High School, a motion of sympathy with Mr. R. P. Kania. Science and Mathematics master, on the death of his mother, was passed.
The death occurred al the Christchurch Hospital to-day, of Richard Nash, 50, married, proprietor of the Star and Garter Hotel, and wellknown in sporting circles. Death was the result of spinal injuries sustained by falling twenty feet on to the rocks, while tramping on the Port Hills on Sunday.—Press Assn.
Mr A. A. Adams, one of the South Island Rugby selectors, left, this morning, for Christchurch. To-mor-row, with Mr P. Harvey, the other selector, he will witness the. Ashburton v. Marlborough match at Ashburton, and on Saturday he will be present at the Canterbury-Southland Ranfurly Shield match.
The death is announced from Ashburton of Mr. Edwin James Paul, 85, for over half a century local representative of the Christchurch Press newspaper. His territory in the early days extended from Christchurch to the Bluff, covered on horseback. For over 50 years he was a. member of St. Stephen’s Choir, making sixty years choir work altogether.—Press Assn. I
The death has occurred in a private hospital at Wellington of Mr William Accrington Andrews, of Karori, .and for many years chief clerk in the telegraph division of the General Post Office. Mr Andrews was born on July 14, 1864, on the ship Accrington, by which his parents came out ,to New Zealand. At the age of 15 he joined the Post and Telegraph Department as a distributor at Blenheim, and he had 42 years’ service in the department before retiring voluntarily in November, 1921. He served at the Blenheim, Christchurch, - Hokitika, and Auckland offices until he was appointed to the accountant’s branch at Hie General Post Office, Wellington, in 1906. He was promoted principal clerk of the telegraph division in 1907.
Miss Alma Leahy, who is to be married next week to Mr E. Caldwell, of the Post and Telegraph Department, was last evening tendered a picture and suppei’ party by Mrs C. McKechnie, Tainui Street. On behalf of Mrs McKechnie, and all present, Mrs J. W. Hannan made the presentation of a solid silver hoi water jug to Miss Leahy, and wished her all health and happiness in her married life.
