MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE

MOTORIST ON TRIAL. [PER press association.] WELLINGTON, July 31. Arthur Haldamond De Lisle, traveller, of Wellington, 31, is on trial at the Supreme Court, on a charge of negligent driving, thereby causing the death of Alfred Hicks, labourer. Accused pleads not guilty. The charge is the result of an accident on Hutt Road, near Petone, on June 2, when the deceased was knocked down by a car driven by De Lisle. The negligence alleged against accused was that he was under the influence of liquor, and driving at such excessive speed, he whs unable to pull up, in time to avoid the deceased.
