RIFLE SHOOTING. WELLINGTON, July 17. Five New Zealand rifle champions, A. Ballinger, the first man to win the Belt on three occasions, G. Halliday, A. Caldwell, R. H. Nicholl, and the guest of honour were present at the complimentary smoke concert tendered to the present champion, H. V. Croxton, by the Karori Rifle Club. There was also present F. W. Ching, who won both the North and South Island championships in the same year during the war, when no national meeting was held. The possibility that a new Zealand rifle team would visit Australia next year was mentioned by W. McBain, during the course of the evening. He said it was probable that Victoria would be inviting an English team to visit Australia about October, 1934, and the National Rifle Association of New Zealand was in communication with Victoria on the subject. If Australia was able to get a British team to come out, New Zealand might send a team across to Australia for an Empire match. HOCKEY AUCKLAND, July 15. St. Luke’s 3, North Shore 2. In the senior motor car streets race for cars over 1500 c.c., at Douglas today, Brian Lewis, in an Alpha Romeo, was first, with an average speed of G 5.23 miles per hour. Richards, in a Bugatti, was second with G 3.62 miles; and Eyston in an Alpha Romeo was third with 63.05. SPEEDWAY TEST. LONDON, July 15. In the second speedway test at Manchester, Australia beat England by 65 to 61 points.
