WRESTLING
VARGA V. BLAKE. • [PER press association.] TIMARU, June 30. In a wrestling contest to-night Count Varga deleated' “Whiskers” Blake by two falls to one. Great interest was evinced in the contest, the house being crowded. Varga secured a fall in the third round with a full headlock and bodypress. Blake equalised in the fifth round, bringing Varga down heavily with a flying tackle, and securing an easy fall. Varga again got a series of headlocks in the sixth round, throwing Blake and pinning him with a bodypress. Varga annoyed the crowd by pulling Blake’s whiskers and punching, and his win was not altogether popular. Blake caused Varga a good deal of concern with successive short arm scissors holds and a Japanese leg bar, which took a good deal of breaking. PEREIRA AND PATTERSON. PALMERSTON N„ June 30. Al Pereira and Patterson staged the first wrestling bout of the season here to-night, to a packed house. The decision was a draw, one fall each. Pereira secured a fall in the fifth round, and after a gruelling contest, rough in places, Patterson evened the match in the final round, by throwing his opponent out of the ring twice, eventually securing an easy fall.
