[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] REEFTON, June. 30. The local branch o£ the Returned Soldiers’ Association held a social evening in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Thursday night. This was the first occasion on which the recentlyformed branch had held a “Ladies’ Evening,” and the function was a great success. A happy time was spent in cards 1 , musical items interspersed with dances. Supper was provided. The following are the names of the players chosen to represent the North and South Divisions of the Northern League Sub-Centre in the match at Waiuta on Sunday, from which will be chosen th e rep, team to play the Grey representatives on the Reefton Racecourse the following Sunday: — North: C. McElwee (Reeftoh), M. Morris, P. Scott (Waratahs), A. McElwee (Reefton), D. King Waratahs), Pfahlert (Ikamatua), W. Byrne (Mawheraiti), N. Orsbourn, J. Robertson, H. Wilson, Dutton, Chandler (Reefton), Hagen (Ikamatua), Ford (Mawheraiti), Downey, Clark (Reefton), August (Waratahs), McLennan (Ikamatua). South: Lamberton (Ahaura), E. Crowe, J. Young (Waiuta), Scott (Waiuta), Ogilvie (Ahaura), Savage (Ahaura), Fisher, Becker (Ahaura), Quinn, Morel, Bannan, Baron (Waiuta), Debarry, Lines, Bailey, Flaherty, W r hite (Waiuta), Savage (Ahaura). The congregation of St. Stephen’s Church entertained Miss Rita Watson on Thursday night in the school-room. There was a representative gathering of church members and the evening was spent in dancing, music being contributed by Misses Stallard, Panckhurst (2), Dobson, Brooks (2). Rev W. Bell referred to Miss Watson’s sterlingqualities and regretted their guest’s departure. Mr E. W. Spencer, in asking Miss Watson’s acceptance of a leather hat case and xylonite clock, referred to her enthusiasm, and wished her success. Mr E. Clark also eulogised the guest of the evening. Mr A. P. Watson thanked the speakers on behalf of his daughter.
