“FAUST” ON MONDAY.

Though past presentations have given the Greymouth Philharmonic Society a high place in the minds of discerning music-lovers in Greymouth, the presentation of Gounod’s opera “Faust.” on Monday evening next in the Town Hall bids fair to eclipse all previous performances and place the Society on an even higher pedestal. The special engagement of Miss Ada Lynn, of Hokitika, a dramatic soprano of repute, should meet with general approval, for Miss Lynn has a pure soprano voice of resonant quality, and she has showed, on numerous occasions on the concert platform, that she is eminently suited to dramatic roles. Singing the role of “Margarita,” Miss Lynn will have ample scope, and can be depended upon to acquit herself creditably. The other artists are all well known, and mention of their names is sufficient guarantee of the success of the presentation. The tenor role, “Faust,’ will be shared by Mr F. Smith (in Acts 1 and 2) and Mr J. Hadland (in Acts 3, 4 and 5). Other characters will be “Valentine,” Mr A. Airns, “Wagner,” Messrs N. Bayley and C. Burning, “Mephistophles,” Mr Reg. Smith, “Siebel,” Mrs C. Moss and Mrs C. Roach, “Martha,” Miss Nita Hopkins. The choir is large and of such size and quality as will give the choral sections of the opera that depth of interpretative treatment requisite for their effective presentation. Not the least important part of the opera will be carried out by the orchestra, led by Mr C. Leech, and judging by the number in the orchestra and the class of the, individual players, the Society will; have nothing to fear in this regard. The pianiste will be Mrs E. L. Kehoe. L.A.B. The conductor, Mr F. Restieaux, will be making his farewell appearance on a Greymouth concert platform. He has been prominent in Greymouth musical circles for a number of years, and has earned a wide

reputation for his musical taste and ability. It is up to West Coast music lovers to patronise this presentation and make it a memorable one. Owing to the length of the opera, the perfomanee will commence al 7.45 p.m.
