CRICKETER’S DEBTS
F. R. FOSTER IN COURT. LONDON, February 15. F. R. Foster, of Ryder-street, St. James’s, S.W., former captain of the Warwickshire Cricket Club and an England Test player, attended Westminster County Court yesterday on a judgment summons by Albert Thrussell, hosiers, of Bennett’s Hill, Birmingham. Mr. R. Perkins, solicitor for Thrussells, asked Foster whether he lived in a fiat at £3 10s a week and had an allowance of £26 a month from his mother. Foster said that the money was administered by solicitors, who paid the rent. Mr. Perkins: Do you know anything about your affairs? —A little. Judge Dumas: What do you work at? —1 try to write. Do you succeed in placing what you write? —Not very well. Mr Perkins asked Foster how much was handed to him by his solicitors. Foster: Because of having to pay for debts I have had nothing for six months. Mr. Perkins: Then what do you live on? : —Food. Judge Dumas: You are playing with the matter. That does not create a good impression. There are cheaper places than Ryder-street where you could live on what you call food. Mr. Perkins: I ask for £5 a month. Mr. Foster seems to have solved the ■problem of living without work. Judge Dumas: He is earning a bit and lias got the allowance. (To Foster) : You are committed for a fortnight; order suspended as long as you pay £3 a month. Foster: I have got to find it. The Judge: You can find it quite well, I have not the slightest doubt.
