YOUNG COUPLE IN COURT
PARENTS STOP MARRIAGE “That’s the one that wanted to get married. She has been at me for seven months,” declared a nineteen-year-old youth at Birmingham, pointing to a girl with whim he was summoned in connection with an alleged false declaration. Before the Magistrate were Howard Cornelius Lanchester and Rose Albutt, aged twenty. Lanchester was summoned for having made a false declaration that he and the girl had obtained their parents’ consent to their marriage, and Albutt for having aided and abetted. Prosecuting counsel said that a feature of the case was that while the girl pleaded guilty the youth pleaded not guilty. They had known' each other, according to statements made by them, for twelve months, during which time they had been keeping company. They decided to try to get married, and went to the register office. When they were asked if their parents’ consent had been obtained they replied that it had and signed a form to that effect. , Later, it was alleged, the girl obtained consent form and forged the signatures of the parents, who, however, arrived at the register office and prevented the wedding. Both, were placed on probation and ordered to pay 28/G costs each.
