The opening event in Carnival Week will be the procession to be held on Easter Monday. The indications are that it will prove a very fine spectacle, several good exhibits being already announced. The pageant will follow a route through the streets to Victoria Park. On the park a much varied list of novel and popular events will be carried out, including the programme of the McLean Park Committee, who have decided to throw in their lot with the Carnival Committee. The novelty events will include chariot races, tip-draps being adapted for the occasion. Draught horse raceswill also be held, the “jockeys” riding bare-back. Tyre races for boys have been added to the programme in response to juvenile requests. A popular event with the mothers will be found in the baby show. The park Will be open again on the evening of Easter Monday, when the leading attractions will be a lantern parade and further illuminations by coloured flares and Roman candles. The concluding item will be a large display of fireworks in which many brilliant effects will be witnessed. Another programme will be carried out at Victoria Park on Easter Wednesday, when the events will include a series of bicycle races in which leading riders will compete. It is hoped to make the fancy costume section one of prominence and it will greatly aid the carnival spirit if as many as can do so, will turn out in fancy costume and masks.
