Beautiful weather on Saturday attracted a large attendance to the annual meeting of the Brunner Spotts Club, held at the Taylorville Domain. In the chopping events, there were not the usual number of competitors, but the contests provided interest. The kawhaka logs made easy chopping, and fast times were registered. H. Bannister, who was in good form, carried off the £25 prize attached to the big chop, and T. Jackson, who won the big money at Karoro, was successful in the twelve-inch chop. The footraces attracted' good fields, and close finishes were general. A promising sprinter, F. Schroder, accounted for the maiden race, then later beat the opposition in the Sheffield Handicap. The Secretary (Mr F. Slater) and an energetic committee conducted the programme in a capable manner, and the meeting was a success from every viewpoint. GALA AT COBDEN The Cobden Football Club held its annual gala on Cobden Recreation Ground on Saturday. The beautiful afternoon attracted a large crowd and business at the various stalls was brisk. Sports, novelty items, dancing and side-shows held the interest of the spectators, and the Civic Band played an attractive programme of music.
