GREY MAIN SCHOOL

COMMITTEE MEETING The monthly meeting of the Grey Main School Committee was held last evening. Present: Messrs R. A. Barrowman (chairman), R. J. Williams, J. Tennent, G. Herring, and W. G. Scott (secretary). The Headmaster’s report, which is as follows, was read and adopted: — Main School-Roll: Boys 273, girls 246. Total 519. Average attendance, boys 257.7, girls 233.7; total 491.4. Blaketown School —Roll: Boys 46, girls 33. Total 79. Average attendance, boys 42.9, girls 25.7, total 68.6. At the commencement of the year there was a considerable decrease in the roll numbers of both the Main and Blaketown schools, this being largely due to the exclusion of the live-year-old pupils. For the term Mr. V. Hutcheson and Miss M. Irwin have been appointed probationary relieving assistants. Swimming instruction is receiving a good deal of attention, standards two to six having two half hour periods of instruction weekly. Towards the end of the season we propose having a swimming carnival for the Main and Blaketown schools. All the cricket teams are receiving satisfactory coach-ing-—J. Graham (Headmaster). It was decided that a holiday be granted the school children on Wednesday, the occasion of the Trades picnic, provided the picnic is not postponed. The matter of a week’s leave for Mr. F. J. Tempero was left to the Chairman to arrange with the Headmaster.
