PERSONAL NOTES

Mr. J. O’Brien, M.P., will return from Wellington, to-day.

Miss J. Fraser, of Runanga, left to. day, for Christchurch.

Mrs John Kyle left to-day, on a Visit to Timaru.

Mr C. Dewar left to-day, on a visit to Timaru.

Mr. J. Smeaton left, last evening, tor Nightcaps, in connection with the Ohai coal mine dispute.

Mr. H. E. Holland, M.P., will arrive from Wellington, to-day, and will proceed to Westport.

Mrs James Kyle and Miss Gwen Kyle will return this afternoon, from a holiday visit to Invercargill.

Traffic Inspector A. E. Sloss and Mrs A. Sloss left, this morning, on a holiday visit to Christchurch.

Mrs J. Walsh, of Reefton, and Misses M. and A. Walsh, left by today’s express, en route to Wellington.

Miss Ivy Robertson, who has been visiting friends at Greymouth, left today, on return to Wanganui.

Mr and Mrs N. Heward, of Runanga, left to-day, en route to England, where they will in future reside.

Mrs F. Sadler, who has been visiting relatives in Greymouth, returned to-day to Christchurch.

Mr. R. Gemmil, of the Railways Department, Westport, left by to-day’s express, on transfer to Darfield. He was farewelled by the Westport staff, and presented with a wallet.

Guests at Revington’s include: — Mr and Mrs D. Gunn (Dunedin), Mr and Mrs Wilson (Melbourne). Mr and Mrs D. Pym (England), Mrs H. Jones (Auckland), Miss Williams (Westport), Mr P. Bankier (Christchurch).

A welcome-home social was tendered Miss Jean Harker in Wesley Hall on Thursday evening, to mark her return from an extended tour of England. A pleasant time was spent in games and items. Miss A. White presented Miss Harker with a bouquet on behalf of members of the Methodist Church and Bible Classes, and in a short speech, expressed the pleasure of all in having Miss Harker among them once again.

Consequent on the retirement of Superintendent W. Eccles from the control of the Dunedin Police District, Inspector James Mcllveney has been transferred to Dunedin as superintendent. He will be replaced at Wanganui by Sub-Inspector R. Ward, who has been promoted to the rank of Inspector. Inspector Ward has been in charge of the detective branch in Wellington for several years. He will be i eplaced by Chief-Detective J. Carroll (Christchurch), and the position of Chief-Detective at Christchurch will be filled by Senior-Sergeant W. H. Dunlop (Lyttelton).—Press Assn.
