GIFT FROM THEIR EXCELLENCIES

The Mayor (Mr W. J.“Moffatt) (says the Nelson Mail) has received the following letter front his Excellency, Lord Bledisloe: — “Dear Mr Mayor, “You will remember that when we were last in Nelson al the beginning of December, and after climbing —as is my wont—the lovely little pine-clad hill behind the City which is deemed to be the centre of the Dominion and which commands a glorious view of Nelson, its harbour and its background of lovely mountains, 1 told you that we should like to provide this—our favourite resort within the City boundary—with a seat made of teak from some famous old British battleship, and that when made in England it would be dispatched addressed to you. This has now been (lone in compliance with my directions and 1. understand from the makers Messrs Castle ami Son of Vtiuxhall Bridge Road, London, that you may expect it at any time. I* will I hope reach you safely' and without damage from its long voyage. Nelson will, I trust, accept this humble gift with our very sincere good wishes. “Yours Sincerely. “BLEDISLOE." In. the course of acknowledging the gift, the Mayor wrote: “Such a gift to the citizens of Nelson I can assure you will be accepted with great pleasure and gratitude not only for the gift itself but also for the kindly thoughts which prompted it and the good wt; Ims accompanying it."
