REEFTON, March 9

The fortnightly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held to-day (Thursday), before Mr W. Meldium, S.M, A first offender was charged with "being found drunk in Broadway, and was convicted and discharged. p. J. Sullivan v. Frank Burn, judgment. summons for £l-1/16/-. An order was made for payment of CIO within seven days, and balance to be paid within six weeks.

At. a sitting of the Warden’s Court held at Reefton before Mr W. Meldrum, Warden, the following business was transacted: —

New Murray Creek Gold Mines Ltd, for reduction of rent.—Recommended. John Doolan, for Ordinary Prospecting license. —-Granted. Basil McInroe, for Water Race License. — Granted for two years. L. A. Cohen for Water Race License.—Granted. A. Willis and 11. June, Ordinary Prospecting License.- —Granted subject to Forestry conditions. 1-1. Jones Ordinary Prospecting License. —Granted. G. J. Wills to surrender four Prospecting Licenses. —Granted. Blackwater Mines Ltd., for reduction in rent. —Granted for six months. S. McDonald to surrender Prospecting License.—Granted. Estate R. A. Thomas for Residence Site License. — Granted. Waitahu Gold Mining Co. for an increase in supply of heads of water. —Recommended. C. W. Adams and Johnston Bros, for Ordinary Prospecting License. —Granted.. C. A. Morris and D. J. Cameron for Extension of time to remove structural improvements. —Granted. At a sitting of the Assessment Court, held at Reefton, objections were lodged by Alexander Mines Ltd. Mr Maloney appeared for the Council. Evidence was given by Joseph Bolitho, manager of the Alexander Mines as to ore reserves and amount of work done to prove stone. T. 11. Lee, Secretary of the Alexander Mines Coy., also gave evidence as to working costs of the mines and benefit received by the company from the increased price of gold and rate of exchange. Mr W. B. Auld, County Clerk, also gave evidence as to basis of valuation in January, 1933. —The Warden fixed valuation the same as for the previous period. The New Big River Gold Mines Ltd. objected to valuation. Mr Maloney appeared for Inangahua County Council. Evidence was given by Mr T. H. Lee, Secretary of the company as to condition of mine at January 31. Mr J. V. Lake, manager of the New Big River Mines Ltd. gave evidence as to reconditioning of mine and footage of driving done, and evidence was also given by Mr W. B. Auld, County Valuer.—Value was assessed by Warden as increased by £lOOO.

Black-water Mines Ltd. objected to valuation of Mine. Evidence in this case was given by Mr E. W. Spencer, managing director of Blackwater Mines as to amount of money paid out in dividends, and value of shares, and Mr W. B. Auld, County Valuer. The Warden assessed the value as increased.

Snowy River; Sluicing Coy. objected to valuation. Mr E. W. Spencer gave evidence as to value of water rights, and value was assessed by Warden. Mount David Sluicing Coy. Ltd., objected to County Valuation and after value had been placed by objectors on value, this was accepted by the County.

Waitahu Gold Mining Coy. objected to valuation. Evidence was given by Mi- H. S. Nightingale, Consulting Engineer to the company as to the value of work done on race construction. Mr C. W. Lipscombe, engineer in

charge of work at Waitahu gave evidence as to state of construction of water race as at January 31. 1933, and value of completed race. Rubbo Bros, also objected to valuation but after argument had been made by counsel, the County acceji!ed value as outlined by objecting counsel.

The congregation, adherents and friends of Knox Church entertained Miss Margaret Hutton last evening at St. Stephen’s Schoolroom. A programme of competitions and music was provided. In presenting Miss Hutton with a week-end suitcase as a token of remembrance, Mr H. Campbell referred to the splendid work which Miss Hutton had always done in the church. Miss Hutton thanked all the speakers for their kindly thoughts and good wishes and stated that her stay in Reefton would belong remembered. Supper was served by the ladies.
