MIX SAYS GOOD-BYE
26 BONES BROKEN.
LONDON, January 26
Tom Mix, the greatest of all stars in Westerns, said good-bye to the screen last week when his latest Universal production, “Rustler’s Round-Up,” was completed. He will tour the world with a circus before retiring.
Mix was persuaded to return to films over a year ago by Carl Laemmle. After a severe operation, however, he found the demands on his energy too great. He also had several accidents in carrying out daring stunts. Mix has been a screen star twentyfour years, and starred in 370 feature films, both of which are probably records. He wrote nearly one-third of his stories and directed nearly 100 of them. He has had twenty-six bones broken and suffered many wounds in refusing a “double” in hazardous scenes. Last year he was given up for dead. ‘‘l began my theatrical career as a circus performer, and would like to finish it in the same way,” Mix says.
