WOMAN LYING DEAD
WHILE FRIEND FASTED. LONDON, November .10. The .Hastings coroner last night adjourned an inquest on Miss Julia Maud’ Jarvis, aged 52. stated to have been studying Christian Science, whose unclothed body was found in a room in a house in Cavendishavenue, St. Leonards, in order to have an analysis of a dark fluid found in the stomach. This fluid, it is thought may be poison. When the body was discovered by .Mrs Carmichael, with whom Miss Jarvis lived, the police were informed, and investigation showed that the woman had' had a bath shortly before her death, her clothes being found in the bathroom. Mr Charles Jarvis, of Dalston-lane, London, said that his sister had good 1 health and was normal mentally. His sister was formerly an active Church of England worker, but she had lately begun to study Christian Science. She ha' 1 also made up her mind to go to T ”dia in spite of the opposition of her relatives. It is believed that Miss Jarvis had been dead at least four days l before tho discovery by Mrs Carmichael, who, in accordance with the practice Ji her faith as a Christian Scientist, was undergoing a faith-healing cure which involved fasting and utter seclusion. Mrs Carmichael, it is stated, retired ° her bed the previous week until Saturday, without food or attention )f any kind. She discovered the ragedy when she rose on Saturday nd informed the police.
