Albert Moyle, 14 years of age, of Mosgiel, died in hospital to-day from burns which he suffered by, the exploding of a. lamp in the brooder 01 a poultry farm. INFERIOR CHEESE. The Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Freisian Association, to-day, carried a, resolution drawing the attention of the Government to the repeated reports of the inferior quality of the New Zealand cheese on the London market, and calling on the Government to take necessary steps to rectify the position, by ensuring that New Zealand cheese is manufactured from lower testing white milks. CYCLIST AWARDED DAMAGES. WELLINGTON, November 10. Tn the Supreme Court, to-day, before the Chief Justice, the Rt. Hon. Sir Michael Myers, and a jury, William Varian Wilson, clerk of works and architect, Petone, was awarded £350 general damages and £49/12/spccial damages against Henry Norman Hansell, tunneller, of- Moera. Plaintiff was cycling at the junction of the Esplanade with Cuba Street at Petone when he was knocked down by a motor-car driven by defendant, receiving injuries to the leg and jaw. Defendant was found guilty of negligence. COUNTY’S FINANCES. GISBORNE, November 12. The financial difficulties of the Matakaoa Council were discussed at a meeting of the Council. The Manager ct the Bank of New Zealand notified that he had stopped the debit operations till the overdraft was reduced to within £lO,OOO. A. company which had supplied the Council with materials, was informed that it was not possible to pay £175 owing. The Chairman stated that the Council was unable to pay the County Clerk’s salary. The Clerk reported that he had telegraphed the Under- Secretary of Internal Affairs Department, regarding the position, and received a reply that, the Under-Secretary was unable at present to give an indication of the financial proposals for the Council. The Council decided to await further advices from the Department.
