BLACKWATER NOTES
[OUK OWN COKKESrONPENT.] A football match in aid of the Blackwater Tennis Club was played here on Sunday between Waiuta League juniors and the local residents’ team (Rovers). It was the best game ever witnessed here, play being fast, and good humoured. The Rovers having no jerseys or shorts, as their team was only formed on Saturday, overcame the difficulty by procuring shorts of various colours from a near-by ladies’ emporium. A fitting name would have been the “rainbows.” Rovers proved too strong in combination for the Waiuta Blues, who coulld not stop the passing rushes. Rovers crossed the line 10 times, converting three times, making a total of 36 to Waiuta’s 10, two converted tries. The elastic actions of Rovers when tackled puzzled the Blues and the score mounted in great strides. For the Rovers Cuff scored 3 tries (1 converted), Pfahlert (2), McLennan (2), B. Bannan (1 converted), G. Roftchi, and P. Bannan (1 converted). For, the Blues .1. Uebeney and Porridge each scored a converted try. Mr G. Harris was the referee. There was a good gate and the Tennis Club will benefit considerably. A further game is to be played shortly, both teams to play in fancy costume. Mrs J. McNamara is an inmate of the Reefton Hospital, and her friends wish her a speedy recovery. Mr P. Parker has returned from Otago to take charge of the Mt. David claim, which is now in full swing and sluicing three shifts. Under his management shareholders are expecting an early dividend.
