MEETINGS

NELSON EDUCATION BOARD. NELSON, September 19. The monthly meeting of the Nelson Education Board w 7 as held to-day, all members being present, except Mr Baigent. The Secretary reported that the school at the Alexander mine would open next month. The Ikamatua Committee applied for a new teacher’s residence. The chairman reported haying inspected this residence and in his opinion ?t was unfit for habitation and recommended that it be condemned and application made for a grant for a new building Which should be placed on a new 7 site. The Board adopted the recommendation and asked the Chairman to make personal representations to the Minister.

The Chajrmaui’s recommendations for repairs to the Black’s Point Schoo] were adopted and the tender of A. Cowan, Black’s Point, accepted, work to proceed at once. The acceptance of Lineham’s tender of £B3 for alterations to the teacher’s residence at Karamea w r as confirmed. The Secretary reported that the Newton Flat school had been removed to a new site. The Education Department notified that no probationers w r ould be appointed in 1933 and admittance to training colleges would be greatly reduced. The Board decided that the new 7 bylaws come into force on October 1. As the result of arrangements made, school committees will now obtain chalk at one shilling and threepence per box delivered.
