Congratulations, on the honour recently conferred on him by the King were extended to Dr 'James Hight, • Rector of Canterbury College, at a representative gathering of Canterbury College students and graduates, held in the social refm of the New Zealand Educational Institute.

Sir Apirana Ngata spoke of Dr Hight’s work as student, historian, and adviser. In the past two or three years of depression, a number of economists had been called upon to advise, the Government. There ap peared to be almost as many schools of thought as professbrs of economics but in Dr Hight they had one thoroughoughly well balanced with good judgment, and an almost intuitive sense ofc the needs of New Zealand and New Zealanders. He was giving New Zealand a body of very solid and very reliable investigations.

Dr Hight referred to the fact that Canterbury. College would celebrate its Diamond Jubilee next year.

The Bishop of Waiapu, Dr Williams, also spoke.
