It is understood that His Majesty Will probably open the Ottawa Conference telephonically, if mechanical preparations ensure a good reception, otherwise His Majesty’s address will be cabled. , . Mr Stanley Bruce, interviewed here, said that Australia., was facing her troubles manfully. “We have improved our position greatly during the past year,” he said, “and we are now very hopeful of Australia’s future. Australia, in the face of the gravest difficulties, has suceeded in meeting every obligation.” The Governor of Hawaii sent a message of greeting to the New Zealand and Australian delegates, who will be his guests to-morrow. TWENTY YEARS’ TREATY. EDMONTON (Alberta), July 8. A commercial treaty to stand at least 20 years, between the Nations of the Empire should be the result of the Imperial Conference, which he believes will be a success, declared Lord Rothermere, to-day. He asserted that it would be nothing short of a calamity if the Conference failed. He was delighted over the Lausanne settlement and felt another success would be scored at Ottawa. The return of the Kaiser Wilhelm to the throne of Germany was predicted by Lord Rothermere, when stating there was a decided movement in favour of the restoration of the monarchy.
