CHARLIE CHAPLIN'S FORTUNE. [BY CABLE PRESS ASSN. COPYRIGHT.] LOS ANGELES, July 7. The County Assessor answered one of Hollywood’s great speculations: “Who is filmdom’s richest celebrity?” The Assessment Roll revealed that he is Charlie Chaplin, who possesses taxable stocks and bonds valued at 7,686,570 dollars in cash, and solvent credits totalling 295,600 dollars. His automabile is worth only 770 dollars. PROHIBITION AMENDMENT. WASHINGTON, July 8. Without the formality of a recorded vote, the Senate, to-day unanimously consented to place on the calendar fo,r future consideration, a constitutional amendment to substitute State liquor control for the Eighteenth Amendment.
COMMUNISTS IN S. AMERICA. BUENOS AIRES, July 8. The possibility of joint action by the South American Governments, to suppress the rising force of Communism on the Continent, was indicated to-day. The Ambassador from Peru is reported to have approached the Foreign Office with a suggestion of united action. It is presumed that the Peruvian Ambassadors in other South American capitals have taken similar steps.
