UNIQUE MASONIC EVENT
IRISH LODGE IN ENGLAND. ALDERSHOT, May 17. The formation of a new Masonic lodge at Farnborough, near Aidershot, was attended by circumstances of a unique character. The new lodge, warranted by the Grand Lodge of Ireland, is attached to the Bth King’s Royal Irish Hussars, quartered in the Cavalry Barracks at Aidershot. When the application for a charter was approved the Grand Master of Ireland, the Earl of Donoughmore, agreed to carry out the ceremony of constitution himself, assisted by his Grand Lodge officers. The Grand Lodge of England, when approached on the subject, not only readily waived any objection to the foundation of an Irish lodge within its province, but showed its interest in the project by sending a deputation of Grand Lodge officers to attend the ceremony of constitution, according to the ancient Irish ritual. The Grand Lodge of Scotland cordially joined in tho event. For the first time in Masonic history, therefore, the Grand Lodge of Ireland held a meeting in England Twenty Grand Lodge officers came specially from Ireland. Tho new lodge is named “Leswarroe,” after the first battle honour of the regiment, and the first master is Mr. T. E. Johnston.
