IKAMATUA NOTES

[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Ikamatua Rugby Club opened the season yesterday, when they played a friendly game with Waiuta. Miss J. Collins, the Waiuta Rugby Queen, kicked off, amid cheers. The wind was strong, blowing across the field, and line-outs were frequent. Ikamatua proved winners after an even game by 8 points to nil. Mr J. Fitzgerald was referee. Before the game commenced the team appointed Mr B. Bannan as field captain. The annual meeting of the Ikamatua Hall Commice was held on Saturday evening; Mr P. J. Fitzgerald presided over a fair attendance. The balance-sheet showed a profit of ovei- £42 for the year, and the .overdraft has now been reduced to about £6O. The Women’s Institute forwarded £6 to be spent in building a cupboard for crockery and covei 1 for piano. A vote of thanks was accorded the Women’s Institute for their assistance during the year. A working bee is to be formed on April 23 to clear blackberries, etc., around the hall, when a good attendance is expected. The election of officers for the year resulted as follows: —President, Mr P. J. Fitzgerald (re-elected); secretary and treasurer, Mr B. Mirfin (re-elected); committee: Messrs G. J- Mclnroe, AMirfin, H. Steel, A. Bradley, M. Flynn and S. Ramsden; auditor, Mr R. J. Warring. A vote of thanks was accorded to retiring officers.
