VALEDICTORY

REV. G.- E. BROWN Last evening, at the Wesley Hall, the members and congregations of the Grey Methodist Church circuit met to bid farewell to their minister, Rev. G. E. Brown, and to Mrs Brown, who will leave, to-morrow, to take a similar position in Dunedin. Mr. I. Nelson, Church Steward, was in charge of the proceedings and presented Rev. and Mrs Brown, on behalf of their many friends in the church, with an envelope of notes. Archdeacon J. A. Jemyn, on behalf of the other ministers of Greymouth, spoke of the good work Mr. Brown had done during his term here, and wished him and Mrs Brown God speed. Messrs S. B. White and C. W. Gunn expressed to Mr. Brown their appreciation of his work as chairman of the Trust Board, and tendered him every good wish. On behalf of the Runanga folk, Mr. T. Walker eulogised the work of Mr. Brown at Runanga, and hoped he and Mrs Brown would take with them happy memories of their stay on the Coast. Mr. J. Nordstrom, on behalf of the local preachers, thanked Mr. Brown for his help, kindly encouragement and open library. As one of the oldest members of the church, Mr. J. Truscott expressed thanks to Mr. Brown for his untiring efforts, and wished him and his wife God’s blessing. On behalf of the young people, Mr. Dailey thanked Mr. Brown for his kindly interest and wished him and his household God speed. Mr. Brown, while thanking the many friends for their goodness and the speakers for theii’ kind thoughts, expressed the hope that the incoming minister, Rev. A. O. Harris, of Hamilton, who will arrive next week, would have the same loyal support and cooperation that he himself had received. He was leaving the district after five years of strenuous work from which he had benefited as much as anybody, and he would take with him many pleasant and worth while memories of his stay in Greymouth. During the evening, Mr. Brown presented to Miss Jean Harker a writingset, in recognition of the faithful work she had done. Miss Harker, who is leaving soon for an extended holiday in England suitably responded. During the evening numerous musical items were given and appreciated.
