MEETINGS TO GOME March 17—Opunake; March 17—Waimate. March 17, 19—Wellington. March 17, 19—Ohinemuri. Nominations Monday: Owners and trainers are reminded that nominations for the Greymouth, and Kumara meetings, close on Monday next, at 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. respectively. Arch Arrow: Did a good gallop over six furlongs this morning at Omoto, and the black gelding is fast coming back to form. With a lightweight rider, he went alone, and finished full of running. His prospects of scoring a winning bracket during the circuit, look bright. Worked Early. J. Shannahan worked his team of four early this morning. Black Mint and Gold Bag went together for six furlongs, Black Mint doing best. Saglt. 1 tarius and Invite were also out, and did useful work. The track is very hard, and some horses are not being overtaxed by racing on it at present. Rain Wanted: Giggleswick was exercised this morning, the hard track being against him working fast, owing to his recent injury to his fore-leg. He exhibited a desire to go fast, and bears a much improved appearance to that carried by him at Christmas. With a soft track, Giggleswick could be tuned up for Westport, but with the firm going, he has had very little galloping, and might need a race to be at his best.

Not for Westport: Mr Behan’s two gallopers, Quinola and Polthea, were worked on the plough. Both look well, and are in good racing condition. They will be allowed to miss the Westport meeting, owing to the difficulties of safe transport.

All Well: J. Walsh bad Mataa, Subdivision, Knocklong, Animated, Arrowmaid, and Fairy Tidings at Omoto this morning, and each was given useful work. Present intentions are to allow the team to miss the Westport meeting. For Westport:

Awamutu, Eaton Hall, and Rich Harvest worked early this morning. Each is in racing condition, with Awamutu doing her work well. This trio will, it is understood, be taken to. the Westport fixture. Not in N.Z. St. Leger.

Bronze Eagle was not entered for the New Zealand St, Leger Stakes, to be decided at Trentham next week, but he is engaged in 'the North Island Challenge Stakes, to be run at the same fixture. He has been galloping pleasingly at Takanini and he should go well if taken South. Bronze Eagle is in the Great Northern St. Leger Stakes at Ellerslie.

Progress of Corinax: ' The Magpie gelding Corinax is making good progress at Ellerslie, and is gradually getting into racing shape again. Corinax is one of the robust sort that requires plenty of hard work, and it may be some weeks yet before he is back to solid racing condition. At his best Corinax is a firstclass handicap performer, and though getting oh in years he should still be capable of winning races over middle distances.

Brother to Second Wind; Courtyard, winner of the Kuao Handicap at Napier Park last Saturday, is a two-year-old gelding by Grandcourt from First Blow, and is therefore a full brother to Second Wind, winner of the King’s Cup, recently decided at Hobart, and other Important races in Australia. Earlier in the season Courtyard won a juvenile event at the Hawke’s Bay meeting, and he is regarded as a highly promising youngster. Since winning

at Napier Park last week negotiations have been made for the purchase of Courtyard, and if the sale eventuates he will probably do his future racing in Australia.
