Trotting

MEETINGS TO COME. March 16— Manawatu. March 16—Wyndham. March 26, 28—Hawera. March 26, 30—N.Z. Metropolitan. Back to South: Neeoro, who has been in the North Island in L. O. Thomas’s stable, came south last week, and it is stated will go into W. J. Tomkinson’s stable. Colonial Boy: Although Colonial Boy looks m excellent order at present he failed at Wellington. Colonial Boy does not stay too- well, but should catch races on his speed if kept at short distance tasks. Kohara Returned: Another chance is to be given Kohara to earn further distinction on the race track, and the black stallion was recently taken in hand by J- Bryce. Kohara looks big, bright, and healthy, his work to date having been mostly confined to swimming. He may be given a race at the Addington Easter meeting.

Manoeuvre: After racing unsuccessfully at the Invercargill meeting, where the state of the going did not favour her, Manoeuvre was not taken back .o Canterbury, but she has been kept in the south, and she will next race at the Wyndham meeting on Wednesday next.

Hard Proposition: When'S. August comes South with Valloden for the Easter meeting at Addington, it is possible he will also bring The Abbey. The chestnut is a hard proposition. No only is he handicapped on a very tight mark, but he is also unreliable at the barrier.

Will He Leave Right? The Hamilton owner-trainer, CMoran, is taking Free Logan to the Manawatu meeting, and the speedy little pacer has only to leave the barrier right to get the money. He has a torrent of speed for one racing in his class, but there is always the possibility of him failing to go away with the others. With a good beginning any price should be a good one.

May Be Rights As a two-year-old Todd Lonzia was hailed as the best trotter of his age produced in the Dominion, but he has not lived up to the prediction. As a three-year-old he went a couple of really good races and recorded fast time for one of his age, but even so there was nothing to warrant him being heralded as a champion. At Wellington on Saturday the gelding was produced twice, and after being beaten into second place in the opening trot, came out! later in the day and won. He is now trained by D. Withers and it may be that the gelding is at that stage when continued improvement can be expected. Sale of Trotters:

At a sale of trotting horses at Ashburton on Tuesday last, on behalf of Mr R. M’Donnell, of Racecourse road, the aged bay gelding Event, by Brent Locanda —Evelyn, which was sold by Mr M’Donnell for £lOOO, and resold for £650 within a year or so, was pur. chased by Mr D. M’lntosh, of Surrey Hills, Sydney, for £5/10/-. Of the 13 horses offered, only four were sold under the hammer, the aggregate price being £39/10/-. -A great deal of interest was shown in a promising two-year-old colt, by Man-o’-War out of Emmeline, which has been nominated for the 1932 Sapling Stakes and Champion Stakes. Bidding commenced at 50gns, the colt being eventually passed in at 75gns. Several horses were passed in and sales effected were as follows:—Bay mare Moira, aged, by Brent Locanda— Evelyn, lOsovs., Mr J. M’Quilken; bay mare, aged, by Brent Locanda—Eileen (stinted to Ahuriri), ssovs., Mr M. J. Farrell.
