While playing with other boys at relief works at Melrose this morning, Cecil Blenkinsop. aged 51, was killed instantly, when an iron truck fell on top of him. SWIMMER’S HEART FAILURE. WHAKATANE, February 15A prominent resident, Humphrey Arnold Prideaux, 67, collapsed and died yesterday afternoon, while dressing after bathing at the Wliakatane Heads. Dr. J. C. Wadmore expressed the opinion that death was due to heart failure, caused by over-exer-tion while swimming. BATHER DROWNED. CHRISTCHURCH, February 15. Whilst bathing with his wife, at New Brighton, yesterday, Harold Percy Stevens, cabinetmaker, 42, was drowned. His wife was heroically rescued in a dangerous backwater current by James Keen, of St. Albans Street, who also brought in Stevens’s , bodyStevens resided in Fisher Street, New Brighton. He leaves a family of three. THEFTS AT CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, February 13. A raid on three city shops early this morning resulted in thieves stealing a mixed variety of jewellery and other goods to a total value of between £3O and £4O. The premises visited were: The jewellery shop of A. C. C. Robilliard, corner of High and Hereford Streets. The chemist’s shop of Wallace and Co., High Street, and The Wholesale Boot Company, Cashel Arcade, Cashel Street. The thieves did not enter the shops, but confined their attention to the show-cases outside.
