LORD LANGFORD SUED
WIFE’S CLAIM FOR MAINTENANCE LONDON, November 2j “Apparently a man-about-town, living in an expensive Jermyn-Street flat,” was how Lady Langford’s counsel, Mr Turner-Samuels, described Lord Langford at Marylebone Court. Lady Langford, who was present in Court, was summoning her husband for maintenance. Mr Turner-Samuels alleged that Lord Langford had deserted his wife for a number of years. He said that they were married in 1922, but Lord Langford got into serious debt, and went abroad in 1923. His wife discovered that he had gone to CanadaHe wrote to her in 1924, but made no attempt to maintain her. It was impossible to trace him until 1931, when lie succeeded to his uncle’s title.
Counsel, outlining the husband’s divorce proceedings against his wife in Australia, on the grounds of three years’ desertion, said: “Apparently that is sufficient cause in Australia for divorce. Lady Langford’s husband was bigamously married in Victoria. When this was discovered he started desertion proceeding’s as a sort of cover. I have an affidavit, in which Lord Langford says .that’ hci communicated with his wife. Actually, he did not suppjort her or attempt to do anything for her. He must have means to keep up the life he is living.” The magistrate said that the case was not within his jurisdiction, and must be heard',at West London. , A later application at ; the West London Police Court resulted in €he granting of a maintenance summons, which will be heard on November 11..
