■k, , tgj foAIUTA GREEN OPENED. The opening of the Waiuta Bowling Club’s green took place on Sunday, in the presence of a large assemblage, including members of the Reefton Bowling Club. Mr Greengrass, president of the Waiuta Club, in declaring the green open, gave a'.short history of the making of the green, and thanked the Blackwater Mines Ltd. for providing such a beautiful green. The Club indeed were fortunate in the fact that it started the season free of debt. He asked Mrs Greengrass to bowl the first ball, which that lady did in a true bowler’s style, amidst applause., Three rinks were played against L Reefton, and resulted in .the latter, being the more experienced players, haying a comfortable win. All the Reefton players expressed surprise at the good surface of the green and the excellence of its drawing. The ladies supplied afternoon tea to all present. Bfefore leaving, Mr Noble (president of the Reefton Bowling Club) thanked the Waiuta Club for the invitation to be present arid also pointed out the excellence of the playing surface, stating that nowhere in the Dominion could a green be found that would play as true on an opening day. He thanked the ladies for the eritertainment provided and extended a hearty invitation to the Waiuta Club to send rinks to Reefton.
