Mr. J. Taylor, Cobden, left to-day on a visit to Christchurch. Mr. W. Jeffries, Hokitika, left today on a visit fo Christchurch. Mr W. Moore left this morning on a visit to Christchurch. Mrs. Moore, Hokitika, mothei’ of Dr. Moore, Greymouth, left by to-day’s express to Christchurch. Mr T. S. Brebner entered the Grey River Hospital yesterday, to undergo an operation. • Mr. G. T. J. Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. -Wilson, Cowper Street, left to-day, and will shortly proceed to Cambridge University. The National Executive of' thb United Party has confirmed the selection of Mr W. B. Darlow, 1 as the party’s candidate for Waitemata. — Press Assn. The wedding was solemnised at St. John’s Presbyterian Church by the Rev'. H. R. Fell, of Mrs. Mary Jones, widow of Wallace Jones, to Alexander Ingram, both of Greymouth. Guests at Revington’s include: — Mr and Mrs H. L. Young (Palmerston North), Mr and Mrs P. G. Martin Messrs M. The Mayor of Invercargill, Mr John Miller, had a fortunate escape from serious injury yesterday, when his car capsized in the vicinity of Lornville, and he was pinned underneath. He was extricated by a farmer and was found to be suffering severely from shock and a. broken arm. — Press Assn.
Nurse C. Ashby of the Grey Hospital staff, was yesterday, on the eve of her departure from the service, in view of her approaching marriage to Mr S. Hills, of Ashburton, presented with a dinner set and a cake stand, on behalf of the patients. Nurse Ashby was also the recipient of a presentation from the nursing staff. The deatii occurred at Hokitika yesterday of Mrs. Julia Devaney, aged 71 years. She was a native of Islandmore, County Cork, and had lived on the West Coast for over 50 years. Her husband predeceased her, but she is survived by two daughters and- two sons, all at Hokitika. The funeral will take place to-morrow, at 2.30 p.m., at the Hokitika Cemetery. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, at 9 a.m. Prior to the ordinary business of lhe Grey County Council tp-day, the chairman, Cr J. Ryall, mentioned that the Council had lost its solicitor, through the death of Mr W. J. Joyce. The late Mr Joyce had been solicitor to the Council for more than 30 years, during which he had given every satisfaction to the different Councillors who had, during that period, held office. As a private citizen, Mr Joyce had been held in the highest regard by all who came in contact with him. The Chairman moved that a letter of sympathy be forwarded to the widow tfnd family of deceased. Cr Ryall also referred to the late Mr E. Stratford, Mrs T. Joyce, mother of Mr W. J. Joyce, and Mrs R. J. Seddon, who had died recently. He moved that letters of sympathy be forwarded .to the relatives. The motions were carried in silence.
