STORMS IN EUROPE
LIGHTNING KILLS SEVERAL DAMAGE IN BRITAIN [BY RADIO—SPECIAL TO PRESS ASSN.] (Recd. AUgust 6,12.30 p.m.) LONDON, August 5. Terrific thunderstorms, causing widespread damage in Britain, France and Belgium, raged all the afternoon. In London, the storms were accompanied by torrential rain and thunderclaps. The train tunnels were flooded. All traffic from Kingsley Cross station was held up. The tram tracks in various suburbs were flooded. Several people were struck by lightning. A fisherman using a metal rod was struck and rent in twain. Lightning set fire to a tram car at Southampton, and a. fire-ball crashed through an hotel roof. A tent in which ten North African soldfers were sheltering at Laon, Northern France, was struck by lightning, and eight were killed. Four farm labourers in the Blois district were killed. Farm buildings were set on fire and cattle killed.
