[BY CABLE —PEESB ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] SALES TAX. CANBERRA, July 8. The receipts from the Sales Tax for the past twelve months fell short of the estimate by £1,527,146. The actual collections were £3,472,845. MUNGANA ACTION. CANBERRA, July 3. Tho Federal Treasurer, Mr. E. G. Theodore, will require to be relieved from duty a fortnight hence, to visit Brisbane to defend the action being brought by the Queensland Government, arising out of the finding of the Mungana Commissioner. The action is likely to commence towards the end of the month.
CONVERSION LOAN
CANBERRA, July S
The Federal Government is hopeful that the success of the Conversion Loan in Australia will facilitate the funding of the floating debt in London. If so, the Commonwealth Bank funds in London could be released to meet the recurring expenditure there in the shape of interest payments. The Federal Treasurer, Mr Theodore, will probably introduce his budget on Friday. SIGNING THE AGREEMENT. SYDNEY, July 9. Mr. Lang admitted, in reply to a question, that he had signed the conversion agreement. He explained that necessary legislation had been introduced in the Assembly, on. the following morning, but in consequence of a telegram received from the Victorian Premier, the introduction of the bill would now be delayed. Mr. Scullin, in he Representatives, said the agreement had been signed by all the States, with the exception of Victoria.
