RUGBY FOOTBALL

INANGAHUA SUB-UNION The annual meeting of the Inangahua Rugby Sub-Union was held on Friday evening, Mr. T. C. Hepburn presided over a good attendance. Mr. Hepburn submitted the annual report: During the season five senior and three junior teams ‘participated, Waiuta entering their senior team somewhat later in the season. The Stallard Cup went to Landing Seniors. The McGillicuddy Cup to Landing and the McMahon to Cronadun after a'succession of hard games. In the junior division well-contested games were forthcoming and some sparkling football was at times shown, the junior banner going to Waratahs, who also annexed the Discaciati Cup. Thanks are due to the non-players who acted as managers and kept these boys together, as it is from these lads that the future players come. As to outside matches, little can be said except that our reps, suffered defeat first at Greymouth and later on for the Dittman Shield, but put -up a better battle in Reef ton when playing the West Coast reps. An enjoyable game was played against Karamea reps, and also a B. team played the P. and T. team from Greymouth. Thdse games did much to fostei’ interest in the code. It would be neither fitting nor proper to let this season pass without some word of praise for the man who takes all the blame, viz., the referee. In the past season we have been rather short of controllers of the game, but those who have acted have always done so for the best interests of the code. I think then that it is up to us to extend to them heartfelt thanks foi' the manner in which they acted and hope that they will carry on in the same manner in the future season. In conelusion, mentioto. must be made of the annual ball, one of the outstanding social events of the year. This was from all points an unqualified success and a fitting ending to a good season. It behoves us one and all now to pull together and make the forthcoming season as good and better.

The balance sheet showed a credit balance of £24/19/7. A vote of thanks was accorded to the President and Secretary for their services during the year.
