RECONSTRUCTION OF NAPIER

NAPIER, March 2

After a day of partial rest yesterday, Napier resumed the rush of reconstruction this morning. Many shops are being constructed in the two squares. With a continuance of fine weather, the town is rapidly getting down to normal business.

DEATH IN HOSPITAL.

PALMERSTON N„ February 28.

The first death among the earthquake patients at the hospital occurred to-day, Mrs Mary Watson, of Hastings, succumbing to injuries. The following new cases have been admitted: Mrs Winifred Hassell, Napier; Mary Grant, Napier; William Mundy, Napier; Alfred Mansfield, Napier; Austin Mitchell, Havelock North.

The following cases have been discharged: Mrs Gardiner, Napier; Mrs Phyllis Hebberley, Napier.

LAW SOCIETY’S HELP.

AUCKLAND, February 28.

The Auckland District Law Society yesterday voted up to £lOOO for the purpose of general earthquake relief in Hawke’s Bay and to assist members of the legal profession in the stricken area. The president (Mr R. P. Towle) said that many members in Napier and Hastings had suffered considerable losses and the society could help them to carry their heavy burden. RECEIVED BY “STAR."
