INANGAHUA

COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING-.

REEFTON, February 26.

The monthly meeting of the Inan-j gahua County Council was held to-day. Present: Crs W. Clayton, Panckhurst, Byrne, Watson, Blackadder, Archer, O’Regan. An apology for non attendance was received from Ci - J. B. Auld, who was granted leave of absence. The Mining Registrar advised that South Blackwater Mines Ltd., had been granted a reduction in rent to 2/6 per acre for one year from 1/1/31. L. E. Morgan wrote regarding rent due by Wealth of Nations Mining Privileges.—Recommendation to Receiver that rent be treated as irrecoverable. The Secretary Murray Creek Gold Mines and E. W. Reeves wrote regarding rent due by the Company on its mining privileges. —Provided that it be paid, the Council will recommend an extensiop of time for payment of rent. , „ Smith Howell and party asked tor a reduction in rent to 2/6 per acre for a period of one year from 1/1/31 over alluvial claims 5580, 5581. —Request to be recommended to Warden. I. Patterson, on behalf of J. F. McNamara, forwarded a copy of application for water race and asking for Council's consent to carry same across Blackwater Bridge.—Granted. The Waitaki County Council forwarded copy of resolution regarding the calling of a conference of County representatives early next financial year to discuss matters as derating e t c .—Council to support resolution. Dr W. A. Conlon wrote asking for the use of a piece of land on River Reserve on north side of Inangahua River Bridge.—Request, agreed 'to at rental of 5/- per year. Jas. Hunter and others petitioned for the removal of tennis court from Coal Street, and from W. J. Evans on same matter. —No action taken. A. W. Bell wrote asking for repairs to track giving access to Sections 24 and 25 Block IX, Inangahua. —Referred to County Foreman to attend to. .

G. G. Lockington wrote regarding small culvert on Brazil’s road and offering to renew same on certain terms.—Referred to Overseer for report. S. Austin wrote asking for a share of blacksmith work required by the Council.—To be given share of work. M. Waddell wrote asking for attention to his sections in High Street, and also to the road in Dunn StreetReferred to County Foreman. The Health Inspector reported on defective dwellings at Inangahua, and also respecting the condition of an hotel at Reefton. —Notices to be sent to the owners of properties concerned. Mr F. C'. Watts waited on the Council regarding access to his property, and brought forward a letter received from the District Engineer and Commissioner of Crown Lands regarding this matter, these stating that the sum of £7O was available foi’ a footbridge and £3O for groyne for protecting his property at Waitahu. — Left to Chairman and town members.

HOSPITAL BOARD.

REEFTON, February 27.

The monthty meeting of the Inangahua Hospital Board was held last evening. Present: Messrs G. B. McInroe, J. O. Byrne, F. Seawright, D. McLane, J. O’Regan, W. Blackadder, T. R. Watson. In the absence of the Chairman, Mr G. B. Mclnroe was voted to the chair.

In reply to Mr McKane, the secretary said he thought the whole of the insurance on the destroyed laundry (£125) would be paid. Mr Blackadder moved that plans and specifications be prepared for a new laundry, and that tenders be called for a new building to close at next meeting.— Seconded by Mr Seawright and carried. It was also carried that Mr Hewson, of the Public Works Department, Greymouth, be asked to visit Reefton and confer with the Board. D. Heslop, J. A. Bierwirth, E. Langley and Doris . Day applied for position as probationers at Reefton Hospital.—Filed for reference. Matron Gibson wrote regarding disputed hire of hall, and stating that as the board had benefited to the extent of £260, she did not intend to pay amount claimed for hall. The secretary stated the Matron had paid the electric light £2/10/-, and had handed him the sum of £s—Mr McKane was against. paying the amount. Nte O’Regan said the sum should be paid. The secretary said the previous motion on the matter would have to be rescinded. —Mr Watson said as they got a good sum of money out of the ball they should' pay the money. Mr Mclnroe said he would like to see the matter fought out, but he did not want to see the Matron dragged into it. — Mr O’Regan gave notice of motion that the motion on the matter passed at a previous meeting be rescinded. Mr Seawright moved that the secretary write to the secretary of the Waiuta Medical Association, and obtain the particulars regarding laying on wire for electric light.—Seconded by Mr Mclnroe and carried. The Medical Superintendent Reefton Hospital reported for the month: —Admitted 20, discharged 18, died 2, remaining in hospital 29, operations 4, anaesthetics 4, outpatients 1, attendances on out patients 2, births 3. Matron Hunt, of Waiuta Nurses’ Home reported:—Admitted 1, number of outpatients 50, attendances 136. The reports were received and adopted.
