CYCLING

LAST EVENING’S RESULTS. There was a large attendance at Victoria Park last evening, to witness the cycle racing, conducted by the Greymouth-United Cycling Club. Five events were held, and produced interesting contests. Conditions were not altogether favourable, a strong south-westerly wind making progress along the back straight very difficult. There were some good finishes, and ■the majority of the competitors displayed good form. Results: — Men’s Half-Mile: —H. Turtill scr. and A. H. Thompson 90yds, dead heat, 1; F. Bradley 75yds, 3. Also competed: H. G. Wilson 30, H. Wilson 50, R. Kay 65, D. Greaney 75, J. Doig 90. Half a length. Time Im. 7 2-ssec. Turtill caught the field, who were bunched, at the turn to the straight. He rode quickly on the outside, to the leaders, and in an exciting finish caught up with Thompson 'thirty yards from the post. He could not shake off the limit man, however, and locked together these two passed the finishing line, with the judges unable to separate them. Bradley and Kay riding half a length further back, were almost inseparable, Bradley being given the decision by the narrowest of margins.

Men’s Mile.—H. G. Wilson 70yds, 1; H. Turtill scr., 2; H. Wilson 85yds, 3. Also started: T. Howson 85, W. Innes 85, C. Watson, J. Doig, A. Thompson 190. Won by four lengths, half a length. Time 3.42 2-5. Turtill made up his handicap when half the distance had been covered.
