SWIMMING

ENDURANCE CONTEST. [BY CABLE —PBISS ASSN. —COPTBIGHT.] SYDNEY, January 23. There is unusual interest among swimmers in an endurance contest that is beginning at four o’clock tomorrow at the Manly Baths. There are sixty competitors, including Mercedes Gleitze and Lily Coppiestone from New Zealand. The prize money is £5OO, and it has already been lodged with the Mayor of Manly. The competitors will not be allowed to leave the water under any circumstances. They will be fed by their friends while submerged to the neck. They must not receive any kind of aid.

It is expected, that a full week will elapse before the winner is determined
