ROME, November 22. Following a 12 per cent, salary reduction, there - has been a regular drive throughout Italy to reduce the cost of living. Meetings have been held to-day in every city and townhhip in order to re-adapt local econoiny, with a view to reducing the prices of Dread; meat, vegetables and.rent. Neiy • prices have already been submitted to thd Governor of Rome, showing a reduction pf from lb to 12 per cent, on foodstuffs. Scores of the landlords haVe announced rent reductions. At present all of the changes are voluntary, but public ojinion is also strong that anybody withholding a redUctibh would find himself hounded out of business; The vigprous campaign has beeiFso effective that the salary reductions have already hen balanced by the new spending value of the lira.
