Dick 94/91—185; J. R. L. Mackay 94/96—190. The outstanding feature of to-day’s play was the magnificent display of A. J. Shaw- With the unpleasant conditions, it was not anticipated that a new course record would be made. Shaw not only made this with 69 in the morning, but confirmed with a 68 in the afternoon, this gives him a commanding lead of 15 strokes. There never has been a finer display of golf in the Dominion, and the chances of Shaw repeating his last year’s performance in winning both the open and professional championships seem assured. . .

A pleasing feature of to-day’s is the place occupied by the young players, B. M. Silk (Wanganui), B. V. Wright (Timaru), and M. Duncan (Wellington)' being among the leaders.

Horton played two steady rounds, and will improve. ‘Millard’s 76 in the second round places him well up. A. D. G. Duncan showed that he can still turn in two good rounds. His partner, to-day was Shaw, whose outstanding game may have affected him a few strokes. Better things were expected of the Masterton player, Hornibrook, whose first championship it is. Ekstedt slipped 11 strokes in the afternoon, after starting well. The wind troubled K. C. Ward in the morning, but he improved 10 strokes in the afternoon.

The Shirley players struck trouble. Tosswill had an argument with tree stumps at Lands End, and Colbeck had the misfortune to break a mashie. P. D. Daniel disqualified himself by playing the wrong ball. The third and four rounds will be played to-morrow.
